
On the invitation of UNFPA Sri Lanka Damrivi participated in the Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Strengthening Partnership with Faith Based Organizations in Addressing ICPD held on 5-7 May, 2008, at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mrs. Yuki Sirimane, Director Operations / Trustee represented Damrivi Foundation. Damrivi entered in to partnership with UNFPA Sri Lanka since October 2007.
The Forum had participation of FBOs from 14 Countries in the Region i.e. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Pacific Islands, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Sri Lanka.
On the invitation of UNFPA headquarters Mrs. Sirimane in her capacity as Director Operations of Damrivi Foundation delivered the Statement representing the Buddhist FBOs.
The Plenary sessions were specifically on the following themes; Maternal Mortality (maternal health), HIV and AIDS, Gender Based Violence and Population issues on Humanitarian settings. The participants from various FBOs from diverse faith groups shared their experiences, both success stories and the challenges faced by them in implementing the UNFPA Mandate.
At the invitation of UNFPA headquarters, New York, Damrivi Foundation participated in the Global Forum of FBO Partnership of UNFPA held in Istanbul. Prof. Asanga Tilakaratne - Chairman, Damrivi Foundation, was one of the lead speakers of the forum and delivered a statement on the experience of Damrivi on emergencies and humanitarian settings with specific focus on our experience in Tsunami rehabilitation work.
Mrs. Yuki Sirimane was invited by UNFPA headquarter, New York as a lead speaker at the joint consultation on 'The Spirit of Development: Women, Faith and Reproductive Health' organized by UNFPA in New York. The consultations focused on the contributions of women and men of faith to development issues, particularly maternal health, women’s empowerment, and gender-based violence. Participants discussed the unique contributions of men and women of faith and FBOs to new developmental dynamics.
