The programme of this on-line Diploma Course is presented as ‘an
experience in Theravada Buddhism’ which is the oldest living Buddhist tradition in the world with an unbroken history
of practice. The programme is presented by a group of experts from within the Theravada System and aims at

Scope of the Programme -
- Provides a survey of Buddhism as a value system through its transmission via
different social and historical contexts from ancient India to the modern West.
- Provides the knowledge of the basic concepts/teachings of the Buddha and the
ability to relate and practice the teachings of the Buddha in daily life situations and to situations in society at
large.
- Explains the applicability and value of the social philosophy of Buddhism and the
ability to apply Buddhist Social Philosophy for the resolution of contemporary inter-personal and social problems.
- Explains the fundamentals of Buddhist ethics represented primarily in the Theravāda canonical tradition as
the original teachings of the Buddha and the possible applications of Buddhist ethical standards in the resolution
of current ethical problems.
- Explains the true nature of existence, i.e. of the mind and body and how to internalize same and to
analyze real life situations in terms of the true nature of existence
- Presents the spectrum of meditation practices in Theravada tradition, both serenity and insight
meditation and guides one to commence the practice of meditation.
